A powerful yet pocket-friendly 64-bit computer for IoT projects is now out. Called Orange Pi 2, the new device is a one of its kind 64-bit ARM based computer board that is available for just $20.

Orange Pi 2 features an Allwinner H5 system-on-chip (SoC) with four cores of 64-bit Cortex A53 CPU. The board also packs a hexa-core Mali-450 GPU and a gigabyte of DDR3 RAM. Further, a microSD card slot is available with an expansion support of up to 64GB and NOR flash of up to 128GB.

This cost-effective single board computer hosts all necessary ports for connectivity. It has three USB 2.0 ports and an Ethernet as well as microUSB OTG port. The board features an HDMI for video output and a 3.5 mm headphone jack to deliver stereo sound. Additionally, it has MIPI-CSI camera interface and 40-pin Raspberry Pi-compatible header.

On the design front, there are not many changes to mention. You might even notice the similarity of the blue-colored board with Raspberry Pi 3.

The super cost-effective Orange Pi 2 is currently available for $19.98 from Chinese Aliexpress. Moreover, if you are looking for something more basic and cheaper, you can also check the newly released Orange Pi Zero that comes at merely $7 and features a new Allwinner H2 SoC.

Notably, the new Orange Pi boards are enough capable of taking on Raspberry Pi and VoCore boards. The launch would overall enhance the space for new IoT developments.
