Huawei Donates its Open Source OS ‘openEuler’

Huawei officially announced to join all partners in the community to formally donate its open source operating system ‘openEuler’ today at the Operating System Industry Summit 2021. The tech giant will donate the OS to the OpenAtom Foundation.

Euler is an open source operating system for digital infrastructure that can be deployed in servers, cloud computing, edge computing, embedded and other devices in various forms. Its application cover IT (Information Technology), CT (Communication Technology) and OT (Operational Technology). The openEuler program was initially announced earlier in 2019, with the new openEuler OS launched back in September.

Huawei will donate the full amount of OpenEuler open source operating system code, brand trademarks, community infrastructure, and other related assets to the OpenAtom Open Source Foundation to build more Strong digital infrastructure, said Wang Tao, Executive Director of Huawei and Director of the ICT infrastructure Business Management Committee.

Currently, the OpenEuler community has around 10000 developers, around a hundred special interest groups, and 300 partner companies. This operating system enables huge possibilities and combines the power of processors, machines, basic software, application software, industry customers, and other partners in the entire industry chain.

Deng Taihua, Huawei’s vice president and president of computing product line, said that the company will continue to invest in and promote the development of openEuler in five aspects. This includes, technological innovation, ecological construction, commercial promotion, open source construction, and talent development.
