Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) announced the expansion of its Linux distribution by recognising over 1000 ADI peripherals supported by in kernel Linux device drivers. The company also released Kuiper Linux, a free Linux-based operating system based on Raspbian/Debian, optimised for ADI peripherals.

Designed to enable the rapid development of embedded solutions, these open-source device drivers streamline the software development process for ADI’s customers, providing access to tested software to create innovative solutions across a range of industries, including telecom, industrial, military, aerospace, medical, automotive, security, Internet of Things (IoT), consumer, and more, the company said.

The new Linux distribution is said to focus on ensuring ready-to-use in kernel Linux device drivers, offering embedded customers a robust system for software development, reducing risk and development time with pre-existing code that is peer-reviewed and industry backed.

According to ADI, the distribution contains all the essential components for running the built-in drivers and enables customers to integrate custom software.

“Using open-source, tested code that they know will work in lockstep with their hardware means customers can focus on innovating instead of building software from scratch, helping them get their products to market faster,” said David Babicz, director of Engineering at ADI.
