The IOS-MCN Consortium has unveiled Agartala 0.4.0, a MeitY-backed open source platform designed to help enterprises deploy Private 5G networks.
The Indian Open Source for Mobile Communication Networks (IOS-MCN) Consortium has launched Agartala 0.4.0, an open-source software platform that enables organisations to build and operate Private 5G networks, positioning publicly funded open source as a foundation for enterprise and national digital infrastructure.
Developed under IOS-MCN, a MeitY-funded national initiative, the platform targets factories, campuses, research institutions, startups, and critical infrastructure operators seeking faster, more reliable, and more secure connectivity than Wi-Fi or public mobile networks.
Agartala 0.4.0 marks the fourth major open source milestone under the IOS-MCN programme. The initiative is led by IISc Bengaluru, IIT Delhi, and C-DAC, with joint support from the Foundation for Science Innovation and Development (FSID) and the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT).
Validation tests have demonstrated end-to-end latency of under 10 milliseconds and downlink throughput of up to 600 Mbps per gNB, indicating readiness for early enterprise trials.
“FSID’s objective is to ensure that research-led programmes translate into deployable infrastructure. IOS-MCN demonstrates how publicly funded, open-source platforms can create long-term national capability. Agartala 0.4.0 moves this effort from development to validation, enabling pilots that will enable future deployments,” said FSID.
The platform integrates a full Private 5G software stack, including ORAN-compliant disaggregated RAN, network slicing, Service Management and Orchestration, a RIC framework, precision timing support, and VoNR with full IMS integration.
Companies including Niral Networks, Coral Telecom, Techphosis, and Mashmari have proposed pilot deployments across rural connectivity, railways, disaster response, defence, education, and drone-enabled networks.
Agartala 0.4.0 is now publicly available on GitHub, reinforcing IOS-MCN’s commitment to open development, transparent governance, and reduced dependence on proprietary telecom stacks.
