PgEdge launches enterprise Postgres and fully open source distributed components to power scalable Postgresql deployments.
PgEdge, a leading open source enterprise Postgres company, has announced the launch of pgEdge Enterprise Postgres, an enterprise-grade PostgreSQL distribution, alongside a full transition of its distributed Postgres components to open source licensing.
This move makes PgEdge one of the few companies offering a fully standard, fully open source Postgres solution supported for both distributed and non-distributed workloads. All distributed components—including Spock (multi-master logical replication), Large Object Logical Replication (LOLOR), and Snowflake Sequences—are now licensed under the permissive PostgreSQL License, approved by the Open Source Initiative, and are available on GitHub. Previously under the PgEdge Community License, these components now remove proprietary barriers, promoting broader adoption and community collaboration.
PgEdge Enterprise Postgres delivers enterprise-grade features such as high availability, full support for PostgreSQL v16, v17, and upcoming v18, enterprise-ready extensions like pgAudit, pgBackrest, pgBouncer, PostGIS, and pgVector, and browser and desktop-based management via pgAdmin. Deployment options include native packages for VMs and bare metal, containers for Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker/Docker Swarm, and managed service availability via PgEdge Cloud.
The platform enables seamless scaling from a single Postgres instance to high availability with read replicas and Patroni, and even globally distributed deployments across multiple regions, ensuring extreme uptime and low latency.
Phillip Merrick, Co-founder and CEO of PgEdge, said:
“Customers have asked us to deliver and support enterprise-class Postgres for their non-distributed workloads, and we listened. The market is clear: organizations want fully standard, fully open source Postgres to power their most critical applications. PgEdge is proud to provide enterprise-grade Postgres solutions that scale with our customers’ needs—while reinforcing our long-term commitment to open source and the Postgres community.”
With this launch, PgEdge reinforces its leadership in the PostgreSQL ecosystem, providing organisations with a scalable, fully open source solution for mission-critical workloads.
