Reliance and Meta are investing $100 million to bring open source LLaMA AI into enterprise-ready solutions, aiming to democratise AI for Indian businesses.
Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and Meta have announced a $100 million (₹855 crore) joint venture to create India-focused open source AI solutions. The announcement was made during RIL’s 48th Annual General Meeting. Reliance will hold a 70% stake, while Meta will retain 30%, with the deal expected to close in Q4 2025 pending regulatory approvals.
The venture will be built on Meta’s open source LLaMA (Large Language Model Meta AI) technology, adapted for enterprise-level AI applications. Its goal is to provide businesses of all sizes—small, medium, and large—with generative AI tools tailored for functions such as sales, marketing, IT, customer service, and finance.
Companies will gain access to a secure, full-stack environment for customisation and deployment of AI solutions, along with a suite of ready-to-use applications. Deployment options will include cloud, on-premise, and the joint venture’s own infrastructure, enabling cost-efficient flexibility.
Reliance will focus on deploying and scaling solutions through its infrastructure and industry reach, while Meta will supply its LLaMA models and global AI expertise.
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and MD of RIL, said: “Combining Meta’s advanced AI models with Reliance’s operational expertise will help Indian companies innovate faster, improve efficiency, and strengthen their competitiveness in global markets.”
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, added: “We’re excited to deepen our partnership with Reliance to bring the power of open source AI to Indian developers and enterprises. Through this joint venture, we’re putting Meta’s Llama models into real-world use, and I’m looking forward to Meta expanding its footprint in the enterprise space as we unlock new possibilities together.”
This initiative builds on Meta’s $5.7 billion investment in Reliance Jio in 2020. Alongside, Reliance is also advancing in AI-powered devices such as JioFrames and deepening its partnership with Google Cloud to establish an AI cloud region in Jamnagar.
