Expanded Akamai-Apiiro Platform Brings Unified Open Source Security To Enterprises

Akamai and Apiiro have joined forces to provide enterprises with end-to-end security across APIs, open source components, and applications, helping teams manage risk and accelerate remediation.

Akamai Technologies and Apiiro have expanded their partnership to deliver a unified platform for application security posture management (ASPM), now with explicit coverage of open source components. The original partnership, launched in 2024, focused on providing visibility into APIs in source code.

The expanded collaboration integrates Akamai’s application security platform with Apiiro’s agentic ASPM platform, giving enterprises comprehensive security coverage throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC). The combined platform offers full API inventory and discovery, visibility across any environment, posture management, and runtime protection through Akamai API Security and App & API Protector. Crucially, it also provides governance over open source components, misconfigurations, infrastructure as code (IaC), and web application firewalls (WAF).

Enterprises face pressing challenges, including faster development cycles driven by AI-assisted coding, fragmented security tools that operate in silos, governance gaps in policy enforcement and SBOM reporting, and rising API volumes due to agentic AI expansion. The Akamai-Apiiro platform addresses these by connecting runtime and code-level insights, prioritising vulnerabilities with a business-aware backlog, and centralising application risk management.

Through this integrated solution, organisations gain enhanced visibility and control over open source components and third-party dependencies, ensuring better risk management, accelerated remediation, and unified governance. The partnership also provides joint customer support and aligned product roadmaps, making it easier for development and security teams to manage application risk at scale.

By explicitly covering open source components, the platform helps enterprises safeguard applications while maintaining the speed and agility required in modern development environments.
