Google has released its Ads API MCP Server as open source, allowing AI developers to securely access and analyse ad data.

Google has officially open-sourced the Google Ads API Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, now available on GitHub. This move allows AI applications to access and analyse Google Ads data using natural language for the first time, bridging AI models directly with real-world marketing workflows.

The MCP Server is currently read-only, designed for diagnostics and analytics. Developers can integrate it into any MCP-compatible AI system to securely retrieve insights from Google Ads accounts, streamlining campaign analysis and reporting.

The release is built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that enables large language models to interact with external applications using natural language. By leveraging this open standard, AI developers can experiment, innovate, and integrate freely, without proprietary restrictions.

The open-source MCP Server unlocks new possibilities for automation, reporting, and analytics, with future versions expected to expand beyond read-only capabilities, potentially enabling AI-driven optimisation or campaign management directly through MCP integrations.

Anu Adegbola, Paid Media Editor at Search Engine Land, notes that the release highlights the potential of connecting AI models like Google Gemini to Google Ads data, improving efficiencies across marketing workflows.

By releasing the MCP Server as open-source, Google encourages community contributions, accelerating innovation and expanding functionality faster than a closed proprietary model. The development represents a significant step in making AI tools more practical, accessible, and integrated into marketing operations.
