Supabase Raises $100M To Redefine Open Source With $5B Valuation

Supabase secures $100M at a $5B valuation, redefining open source collaboration by letting developers co-invest and driving the future of app building through ‘vibe coding’ and AI-assisted development.

Supabase, the open source backend platform built on Postgres, has raised $100 million in Series E funding led by Accel and Peak XV, propelling its valuation to $5 billion. The company has now secured $500 million in total funding since its 2020 founding, more than doubling its valuation in just five months from April’s $2 billion Series D.

Positioned as the open source alternative to Google’s Firebase, Supabase gives developers greater control, transparency, and scalability. Reflecting its “build-together, own-together” ethos, the company also allowed its developer community to co-invest in the round, reinforcing its open-source roots in shared ownership and collaboration.

CEO and cofounder Paul Copplestone described the raise as a step towards larger ambitions. “The future of Supabase, I hope, is the $50 billion, $100 billion outcome,” he said. He added: “Developers today are coding a lot, and I think they’ll probably code a lot less in the future. But people will still be interested in building things. As things get easier, more people will actually want to create.”

Copplestone credits much of Supabase’s growth to the ‘vibe coding’ movement, which he defines as a new era of simplified, collaborative app building. Its evolution has moved from promising fewer tools, to no-code development, and now to seamless scaling across devices. Notably, 30% of new users identify as AI builders using Supabase for automated or assisted development.

The round included Figma Ventures as its only new institutional investor. Supabase already powers Figma Make, an AI-driven design tool, with Copplestone praising Figma CEO Dylan Field’s community-driven culture.
With its user base growing from 1 million to over 4 million developers, Supabase plans to expand its global reach, strengthen AI integrations, and launch new developer tools across industries.
