Umami v3 Strengthens Its Open Source Edge With Pro Analytics and PostgreSQL-Only Support

Open source analytics platform Umami has rolled out version 3 with a redesigned interface, advanced tracking, and PostgreSQL-only support, aiming to offer a privacy-first, professional alternative to Google Analytics.

The open source, privacy-focused web analytics platform Umami has launched version 3, introducing major upgrades that strengthen its position as a transparent, GDPR-compliant alternative to Google Analytics.

The latest release features a completely redesigned interface, new cohort and segmentation tools, and enhanced tracking mechanisms, marking a significant step toward professional-grade analytics. The developers have also made a major architectural shift, Umami now exclusively supports PostgreSQL, ending compatibility with MySQL. A migration guide has been made available for existing users.

Version 3 delivers a cleaner and faster navigation experience, allowing users to switch between monitored websites through a new drop-down menu. Reports are now displayed on separate pages for better organisation. Filters can be stored as URL parameters, enabling teams to share filtered analytics views directly via links, while multiple filters can be added or edited simultaneously.

Two key analysis function,Segments and Cohorts, have been introduced. Segments let users save predefined filter combinations, while cohorts group users by time and activity to analyse behaviour over extended periods, such as retention.

New tracking elements include Links, which act as short URLs for click and download monitoring, and Pixels, invisible images that enable tracking in emails or non-JavaScript environments. A central admin panel now simplifies management of users, teams, and websites.

Licensed under MIT, Umami remains fully open source and can be self-hosted or deployed as a cloud service. Competing with tools like Plausible and Rybbit, Umami v3’s PostgreSQL-only foundation and advanced analytics features underline its commitment to open, privacy-respecting measurement.
