OpenAI Launches Prism, A Free AI Workspace For Scientific Writing And Research Collaboration

OpenAI has launched Prism, a free AI-powered workspace for scientific writing and collaboration, offering unlimited access to drafting, citation, and research tools for users with a ChatGPT account.

OpenAI has launched Prism, a free, cloud-based AI workspace for scientific writing and research collaboration, powered by GPT-5.2. The company says the tool is intended to make advanced research workflows more accessible, although Prism is not released as open source software.

Prism brings together paper drafting, citation management, reasoning tools, and collaboration in a single workspace. The platform is available immediately to users with a ChatGPT personal account, with access for ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, and Education customers planned for a later date. OpenAI is offering unlimited projects and collaborators, with no subscription fees or seat limits.

“We’re introducing Prism, a free, AI-native workspace for scientists to write and collaborate on research, powered by GPT-5.2. Prism offers unlimited projects and collaborators and is available today to anyone with a ChatGPT personal account. Prism will be available soon to organisations using ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, and Education plans,” OpenAI said.

Prism allows users to draft and revise scientific papers with support for equations, citations, and figures. It also provides access to GPT-5.2 for idea exploration, hypothesis testing, and step-by-step reasoning. The platform can search academic literature and add references directly to manuscripts, support equations and diagrams, and convert hand-drawn whiteboard sketches into LaTeX.

The workspace includes real-time collaboration for co-authors, students, and advisors, along with voice-based editing features. OpenAI said the goal is to reduce practical barriers to research participation and make scientific writing tools available to a wider range of researchers.
