SUSE Expands Open Source AI Power With Rancher Prime And SUSE AI Upgrades

SUSE has expanded its open source cloud native platforms, Rancher Prime and SUSE AI, with new AI, observability, and developer tools.

At KubeCon + CloudNativeCon 2025 Americas in Atlanta, SUSE unveiled a new wave of open source innovation focused on AI simplicity, observability, and data sovereignty. The company announced enhanced capabilities in its cloud native platform, SUSE Rancher Prime, and SUSE AI, a specialised software stack designed for managing hybrid AI workloads.

The upgrades aim to provide enterprises with robust security, observability, and frameworks to operationalise AI solutions at scale, while maintaining ROI visibility and full control over proprietary data. SUSE AI further strengthens enterprise sovereignty by ensuring that data and intellectual property remain under customer control.

“The future of enterprise IT will run on secure, containerised AI applications, with specialised workloads across any hybrid cloud environment,” said Thomas Di Giacomo, Chief Product and Technology Officer at SUSE. “As a container management platform, SUSE Rancher Prime serves as a powerful foundation for SUSE AI. This coupling uniquely positions us to help customers manage their complex IT workloads and accelerate their AI journeys.”

Key advancements include a Universal Proxy (Integrated Model Context Protocol proxy) for cost and data optimisation, Liz, an agentic AI tool for simplified Kubernetes management, and Virtual Clusters for efficient GPU utilisation. SUSE Observability gains OpenTelemetry (OTel) support for unified, open visibility across infrastructures.

Further strengthening its open source roots, SUSE Rancher Developer Access introduces the SUSE Application Collection, a curated library of open source applications and container base images. With CNCF Conformance achieved, SUSE cements its leadership in community-driven, open source-powered AI and hybrid cloud governance.
