OpenCloud 4.0.0 Launches As Open Source Platform With Multi-Tenancy, Kubernetes Optimisation And Enterprise Features

OpenCloud 4.0.0 introduces multi-tenancy, enhanced Kubernetes efficiency, and OpenSearch integration, offering enterprise-grade open source solutions for providers, organisations, and communities.

OpenCloud 4.0.0 is now officially available under free open source licenses, with optional commercial enterprise licenses providing additional features and 24/7 support. The latest release brings multi-tenancy, allowing multiple tenants to operate independently within a single deployment. “This is specifically aimed at providers, municipal data centers, and large organizations with multiple departments or customer environments,” said Tobias Baader, Product Manager.

The release also focuses on Kubernetes optimisation. New Helm charts are designed to achieve a 5.25-fold increase in efficiency, offering high availability, intelligent load balancing, and automatic scaling to minimise resource usage and reduce costs in large-scale deployments.

OpenSearch integration enhances the file search experience, providing scalable, high-performance searches even for extensive datasets. The desktop client now features Files on Demand, displaying all files locally while only downloading them when accessed, reducing storage requirements. Frequently used files can remain offline permanently, while rarely accessed content is offloaded.

Community and private users benefit from a new CalDAV/CardDAV-based calendar and contacts system via the Radicale server. Personal CalDAV URLs allow seamless integration with apps like Apple Calendar or Thunderbird.

Additional improvements include PosixFS live updates and undo functionality, a switch to Google Material Design, dark mode, extended trash management, support for more file formats in the Web Office Collabora editor, central branding customisation, optional profile pictures, and a Web UI installable as a Progressive Web App.

OpenCloud emerged from ownCloud Infinite Scale (oCIS) earlier this year and is now managed by the Heinlein Group.
