Red Hat OpenStack Platform 8 Cloud Suite

Red Hat Cloud Suite and Open Stack Platform 8 will help Red Hat grow its presence in the world of cloud computing. The company has additionally brought Red Hat Ceph Storage and Red Hat CloudForms.

After shifting its entire focus from Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat has now announced the general availability of Red Hat Cloud Suite and OpenStack Platform 8 to grow its presence in the emerging world of cloud solutions. The new offerings are aimed “to help in bridging the gap between development and operations teams” right at the cloud computing scale.

OpenStack isn’t new for Red Hat. But with the new announcement, the open source software company will now have an upgraded version of its scalable infrastructure along with all-new optimised storage and management capabilities. There will be Red Hat Ceph Storage and Red Hat CloudForms to natively enable the new features.

While Red Hat OpenStack Platform 8 will offer a new Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) platform to the enterprise customers, Red Hat has an integrated hybrid cloud stack with a container application platform in the form of OpenShift to provide an upgraded Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS). Additionally, there are unified management tools as CloudForms. All these new products will come in an easy-to-deploy solution through Red Hat Cloud Suite.

“Red Hat OpenStack Platform 8 and Red Hat Cloud Suite showcase the power of Red Hat’s open innovation,” says Tim Yeaton, SVP of Infrastructure Business, Red Hat, in a statement, “with solutions that can address nearly any private cloud deployment scenario while at the same time delivering a streamlined cloud-native application development platform coupled with the needed enterprise-level controls for cloud management and improved security.”

Network function virtualisation and software-defined networking deployments

As a co-engineered solution with the features of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat’s native OpenStack technology, Red Hat OpenStack Platform 8 is designed for network function virtualisation (NFV) and software-defined networking (SDN) deployments. It is based on the OpenStack community “Liberty” release.

Similar to the core OpenStack model, the new Red Hat OpenStack platform comes bundled offerings with automated upgrades and real-time KVM. Moreover, there is improved network I/O performance with DPDK-accelerated Open vSwitch and OpenDaylight networking plugin to provide a software-defined network.

Set to extend management and infrastructure capabilities for clients

To extend management and infrastructure capabilities, Red Hat Cloud Suite has some new management tools directly from Red Hat Satellite. The package also has operations management service Red Hat Insights and Kubernetes-based container orchestration.
