Twitter To Fund Development of Open Source Social Media Standard

Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter tweeted that the company is funding a small independent team of up to five open source architects, engineers, and designers to develop an “open and decentralized standard for social media”. The project is called Bluesky and no body is working on the project at the moment as per reports.

He also acknowledged that the process could take years. Parag Agarwal,CTO, Twitter has been tasked to find the lead for the project. Agarwal tweeted that the ideal candidate needs to have experience working “in the open on the blockchain”.

Open community

Dorsey also said that the company expects that this team will not only develop a decentralised standard for social media but also build open community around it. This will be inclusive of companies and organisations, researchers, civil society leaders.
