A wireless mechanical keyboard combines high-speed connectivity, modular hardware, and community-driven firmware to provide greater customisation, lower latency, and extended battery life.
Keychron has introduced the K1 Ultra 8K, a low-profile wireless mechanical keyboard built around the ZMK open-source firmware. Replacing the QMK firmware used in earlier models, ZMK offers improved wireless performance, reduced power consumption, and extended battery life while supporting custom keyboard configurations.
Both wired and 2.4 GHz wireless modes support an 8,000 Hz polling rate that helps minimise input delay and improve performance during gaming and other tasks requiring quick response. The keyboard supports Bluetooth 5.2 technology to pair multiple devices. USB Type-C interface allows using the device in wired mode and charging. According to the manufacturer, the keyboard can operate for up to 760 hours on a single charge.
The K1 Ultra 8K has CNC-machine aluminium chassis, gasket-mounted design, hot-swappable mechanical switches, and south-facing RGB lighting. Users can replace compatible switches without soldering, set the key layout, create macros, customise lighting, and assign shortcuts from the browser-based Keychron Launcher app.
The ZMK firmware uses a modular architecture that supports custom layouts, advanced wireless features, and ongoing community-driven development.
