HeroDevs Raises $125M to Secure Legacy Open Source Software

HeroDevs has joined the Commonhaus Foundation to launch the Open Source Sustainability Initiative, offering official security support for older versions of popular software frameworks.

HeroDevs has partnered with the Commonhaus Foundation to create the Open Source Sustainability Initiative (OSSI). Through this program, HeroDevs will provide commercial support for older, outdated versions of widely used open-source software, starting with frameworks like Hibernate, Jackson, and Quarkus.

Today, the average company app relies on over 900 open-source parts. Many businesses—especially those in strict, highly regulated industries—cannot easily upgrade these parts to the newest versions right away. This creates a dangerous security gap, especially with the rise of artificial intelligence. Today’s advanced AI tools allow hackers to scan old code and build working exploits to attack systems in just a few hours.

By providing expert support for older software versions, HeroDevs buys engineering teams the time they need to safely plan their upgrades. Instead of forcing developers to spend weeks manually patching old systems or rewriting custom code, this partnership handles the safety maintenance externally. This keeps older apps secure from fast-moving AI threats while letting internal developers stay focused on building new features. Over time, HeroDevs plans to expand this extended support to even more open-source projects managed by the foundation.
