Kilo Code, recognised by Gartner for its multi-model gateway, lets development teams orchestrate, supervise, and govern teams of AI agents at production scale.
Open-source AI coding platform Kilo Code has officially been named a “coolest vendor innovation” in the 2026 Gartner® Coolest Vendor Innovations in AI Coding Agents report. Gartner highlighted that in this rapidly emerging market, features that simply assist developers in writing code are no longer viewed as innovative. Instead, the most impactful innovations are those that empower development teams to orchestrate, supervise, and govern AI coding agent behaviour.
Kilo Code is currently used by more than 3 million developers worldwide, ranking among the top coding applications by overall usage on the OpenRouter platform. The company is led by CEO and co-founder Scott Breitenother. The software supports multi-agent personas and background engineering workflows, covering tasks such as standard coding, automated code reviews, security analysis, rapid prototyping, and full application development.
The platform is built around the fundamental belief that no single AI model will completely dominate software engineering, requiring environments that support native multi-model flexibility. Through its centralised Kilo Gateway feature, developers can access, test, and route work across more than 500 frontier and open-weight models simultaneously from a single interface.
“We believe software engineering is entering a new era where developers increasingly work alongside teams of AI agents,” said Scott Breitenother, CEO and co-founder of Kilo Code. He added that as organisations move agents into production, they require complete visibility, model flexibility, and scalable governance.
Kilo eliminates traditional vendor lock-in by providing a unified environment that manages centralised billing, real-time pricing transparency, usage monitoring, and cost tracking. This allows enterprise engineering leaders to confidently scale and govern multi-agent software operations.
