The latest open-source firmware update utility introduces new security features, broader hardware support, and improvements to firmware management.
This release of fwupd 2.1.7 provides new capabilities along with various fixes for the firmware updating utility for Linux-based OSes. Working with the Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS), the tool enables secure firmware updates on Linux-powered machines and extends support for additional hardware devices as well as strengthens platform security.
In particular, support has been added for the PixArt PJP360, which is used in the PixArt POCO 103X touchpad, thanks to the new PixArt plugin. Well-known AppStream IDs for common BIOS settings, and the following new security attributes were introduced: MTD lock security attribute, externally managed EFI signature lists, systemd-pcrlock plugin, and TCG disk encryption security attribute.
The support for additional fwupd plugins has been added due to the improvements in Android builds, and the hardware security reporting was improved with the introduction of some new security attributes.
Fwupd 2.1.7 also brings many bug fixes in the project. Corrected handling of AMD GPU version strings, support for suspend-to-RAM on systems using encrypted RAM, and bug fixes for several device plugins and firmware update routines.
By extending hardware support, strengthening platform security, and optimised firmware update process, fwupd 2.1.7 further improves the Linux firmware management. The project offers an open-source solution for firmware management.
