Block’s Buzz, an Apache 2.0 open-source suite, leverages Nostr keypairs to unify chat, code, and autonomous AI agents inside a cryptographically auditable, self-hostable ecosystem.

In a direct strike against proprietary enterprise platforms like Slack and GitHub, Jack Dorsey’s Block has officially released Buzz, an open-source, agent-first workspace on 21 July, 2026. Buzz aims to redefine enterprise interaction by elevating AI models from isolated bots into fully privileged, peer-level team members.

At the technical core of Buzz is Nostr, an open, censorship-resistant messaging protocol. Rather than relying on centralised user accounts, Buzz provisions every human and AI participant with an independent Schnorr cryptographic keypair. This solves multi-agent governance challenges: every interaction, including messages, code reviews, and CI triggers, is cryptographically signed as an event in a single, append-only log.

Because identity exists as mathematical public/private key pairs, organisations maintain complete data sovereignty. Enterprises can self-host their own Rust-based Nostr relay on private infrastructure—ensuring zero telemetry leaves their perimeter—or use Block’s free hosted relay.

Buzz natively merges chat channels with software forge capabilities, treating Git branches directly as discussion threads. Operating on the open Agent Client Protocol (ACP), it remains model-agnostic, supporting Anthropic’s Claude Code, OpenAI’s Codex, and Block’s open-source goose framework. The initial desktop release (v0.4.21) supports macOS, Windows, and Linux, complemented by buzz-cli for autonomous tool invocation.

Distributed under the Apache 2.0 licence, the source code is publicly available on GitHub ([github.com/block/buzz](https://github.com/block/buzz)), alongside hosted access at buzz.xyz. This launch underscores Block’s strategy to flatten internal friction and replace third-party SaaS dependencies with a self-sovereign, multi-agent substrate.
