Entire will open source its Git backend while launching its India region and inviting open source maintainers to help build an AI-native development platform designed for distributed, agent-driven software engineering.
Former GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke’s startup, Entire, plans to open source its Git backend, enabling developers to inspect the code, contribute improvements, and self-host Git nodes. The company has also launched a Founding Builders Programme, inviting open source maintainers, enterprises, and startups to help shape its AI-native developer platform.
Alongside the open-source push, Entire has launched an India region for its Distributed Git Network, allowing organisations to host or mirror repositories locally to meet data residency, data sovereignty, intellectual property, and regulatory requirements. The company has hired Karthik Rameshkumar as Field CTO and plans to expand its presence in one of its largest developer markets.

We’re super excited about bringing the capability of mirroring GitHub repositories into India and hosting repositories with Indian data residency,” said Thomas Dohmke, Founder, Entire, and former CEO of GitHub.
Designed for AI-native software development, Entire combines a distributed Git infrastructure, a semantic layer that captures AI coding sessions, and an AI-native interface. It positions itself as the primary working repository while GitHub remains the backup. Entire claims repository cloning is more than three times faster than GitHub and supports about 570,000 Git clones and 2.1 million Git pushes per hour, allowing multiple AI agents to work simultaneously without bottlenecks.
The company also stores prompts, conversations, reasoning, and model outputs alongside Git commits to preserve engineering context, reduce token consumption, and support future AI-assisted development. Additional plans include public repository hosting, CI/CD, enterprise management, branch protection, and policy controls for a fully AI-native software development lifecycle.
