Gravitee and Clever Cloud have partnered to deliver an open-source AI control plane that helps European organisations avoid vendor lock-in and maintain resilient AI operations despite geopolitical disruptions.
Gravitee and French cloud provider Clever Cloud have announced a strategic partnership to deliver an open-source sovereign AI control plane running entirely on European infrastructure. Built on Gravitee’s open-core platform, the solution allows organisations to inspect, self-host and operate the AI control plane independently, reducing dependence on proprietary AI gateways and vendor lock-in.
Designed for public-sector organisations and regulated enterprises, the platform combines Gravitee’s AI Gateway and Authorization Management with Clever Cloud’s France-based infrastructure. It provides governance across multiple AI providers through a single endpoint while allowing organisations to switch models through configuration rather than rewriting applications if a provider becomes unavailable.
The partnership follows recent US export controls that abruptly suspended access to frontier AI models for foreign nationals, which Gravitee says demonstrated that hosting AI in a particular region alone no longer guarantees sovereignty.
“When the suspension order came, the most safety-focused AI lab in the world had only one lever: shut the model off for everyone, everywhere. No targeting, no transition, no warning. Your architecture needs to be more resilient than the model it depends on,” said Rory Blundell, CEO of Gravitee.
The platform supports deployment on Clever Cloud, other cloud providers, on-premises infrastructure and fully air-gapped environments. It also includes automated provider failover, identity-aware authorisation, fine-grained data governance and vendor-independent architecture. The SaaS offering is being architected towards SEAL-3 technological autonomy under the EU sovereign cloud framework and is currently being validated for production use.
