Echo Software has acquired key Minimus assets to expand its hardened open-source software platform across more Linux distributions and strengthen secure-by-default software supply chains.
Echo Software has acquired key technology, technical data, and security integrations from Minimus after the company decided to wind down operations, expanding Echo’s hardened open-source software platform and providing existing Minimus customers a path to continue using the technology.
Echo rebuilds open-source software from source and distributes hardened artefacts designed to replace vulnerable upstream components, rather than relying only on vulnerability detection after deployment. Minimus’ operating-system technology will extend this approach across additional Linux distributions, supporting Echo’s goal of a distro-agnostic hardened software platform.
The company plans to expand Minimus’ integrations so Echo’s hardened artefacts can be recognised by a wider range of vulnerability scanners and enterprise security tools, making them easier to identify and manage within existing security workflows.
Echo also uses proprietary AI agents across its software factory to investigate vulnerabilities, develop patches, validate remediation, and continuously maintain hardened open-source software. The company expects Minimus’ technology and technical data to provide additional inputs for these automated research and remediation systems.
Echo’s platform currently includes hardened container images, software libraries, virtual machines, operating-system packages, Helm charts, and other open-source artefacts. The company says the secure-by-default open-source software market is consolidating around fewer providers, including Echo and Chainguard.
