Mika AI Agent Powerful Open Source Android Automation Runs Apps on a Hidden Screen

Mika brings smartphone automation through an open-source Android AI agent licensed under Apache 2.0 that does tasks inside your apps for you, without interrupting what you are doing on your screen.

Benefits of the Mika AI Agent in Android Automation

Mika is designed to turn a language model into a smartphone assistant capable of performing tasks through simple natural language prompts. It operates on a separate virtual screen which allows it to navigate through the applications, access the content on-screen, tap buttons and enter texts aand scroll on the background while users can continue using their devices. The platform is compatible wth several AI model providers, including OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic, DeepSeek and Qwen. It also comes with features such as scheduled task automation, an integrated browser, encrypted on-device memory and a Linux sandbox. Its Model Context Protocol (MCP) integration allows desktop AI agents like Claude Code and Codex to assign tasks to an Android device.

One of Mika’s biggest advantages is its open-source and model-agnostic approach, allowing users to connect their preferred AI models or run local models through Ollama and LM Studio. While Mika simplifies smartphone automation, its extensive app access raises security and privacy concerns. The agent can access app content, send messages, submit forms and modify settings, often without seeking user approval for each action, which is a concerning thought. Its default Ask mode requires confirmation for payment-related activities, but users still need to exercise caution while granting permissions and sharing sensitive data. As a relatively new project, Mika still needs to establish its reliability and long-term project sustainability.
