A compact magnetic ePaper display supports four open-source firmware platforms, giving developers multiple options for dashboards, home automation, productivity tools, and custom embedded applications.
Seeed Studio has introduced firmware support for its reTerminal Sticky 3.97-inch magnetic touch ePaper display across four open-source projects, expanding the ways developers can customise the device for different applications. Instead of being restricted to the default software, users can choose the firmware that best matches their requirements, from smart home dashboards to self-hosted information displays.
The firmware platforms supported are OpenDisplay, OpenEPaperLink, TRMNL, and ESPHome. Each platform provides different features, including home assistant support, browser-based dashboard creation, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, and custom workflows. Developers can choose any of the available platforms according to their application requirements without changing the hardware.
Based on the ESP32-S3 microcontroller, the display has a 3.97-inch ePaper display that features a capacitive touchscreen, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, battery power, USB-C port, storage and has magnetic mounting allowing it to be attached to refrigerators, whiteboards, cabinets, or other metal surfaces.
Using these firmware platforms, developers can create applications such as digital dashboards, smart home controllers, calendar displays, environment monitors and notifications panels. These applications operate with very low power consumption. AS all projects are open-source users can examine, modify and extend the software to suit the requirements.
By supporting multiple open source firmware projects, the platform offers greater flexibility than relying on a single software stack.
