Matera has released an open-source implementation of the ANSI X9.150 Merchant-Presented Payment QR Code Standard. The implementation is intended to make it easier for banks, credit unions, fintechs, and developers to experiment with the standard and explore interoperable account-to-account payment applications.
The software can be downloaded and installed locally or deployed in the cloud without requiring licence fees, API keys, or registration. The open-source version allows users to generate up to 100,000 QR codes per month using any two payment rails and can be used for development, education, proof-of-concept, and production purposes.
The implementation enables organisations to create and verify X9.150 QR codes. It also helps developers understand how the standard works and test account-to-account payment flows. This allows developers to work with the standard without having to build an implementation from scratch.
The open-source implementation is available through a GitHub repository, while a fully functional version is available on Docker Hub. Organisations that need to generate more than 100,000 QR codes per month or require additional payment-rail functionality can consider Matera’s commercial payment QR code solution.
The commercial payment QR code solution supports the X9.150 standard and includes payment rails such as FedNow, RTP, ACH Credit Transfer, and the Zelle Network, along with newer digital payment methods such as stablecoins.
