What if creating an interactive 3D model based on the AI-generated concept required nothing more than writing just several lines of code? A new open-source project from Google, Three-Live, is working toward making it happen on websites, Android, and iOS.

Google introduced its latest open-source project, Three-Live, which allows developers to create interactive 3D models, Augmented Reality (AR), and WebXR experiences by applying AI-generated Three.js code. The Apache 2.0-licenced project is released at this stage in the form of Developer Preview 1.0.0. Using Google Antigravity technology, Three-Live is an unofficial project and is not an official product of Google. Three-Live’s primary goal is to facilitate 3D development without requiring modelling skills or complex pipelines.

Three-Live’s Simplifying AI-Powered 3D Development

As is often the case with AI-generated code, its security becomes one of the most important issues. In order to solve it, the tool uses sandboxing, which makes untrusted JavaScript isolated from the application itself. The execution time and resource usage of 3D are also limited to avoid performance issues with scripts. Having parsed the code, the tool converts the generated 3D scene into standard GLB and USDZ file formats that are compatible across platforms. Using the online Three-Live component, developers can create interactive 3D graphics incorporating lighting and shadow effects, animations, and camera control abilities.

Additionally, it lets developers create a variety of AR applications that make use of Android Scene Viewer, Apple AR Quick Look, and WebXR technologies. Developers will particularly benefit from mobile-specific tools offered by both Android and Apple platforms. XR-Live companion package adds features such as hand-tracking, object scaling, and voice/text 3D creation. The developers can check out its browser playgrounds, GitHub repository, and ready-to-use packages.
