Nextcloud Hub 26 Spring introduces Euro-Office alongside Collabora Online, giving organisations a choice between Microsoft Office compatibility and open-document-focused collaboration while advancing European digital sovereignty.
Nextcloud has released Hub 26 Spring, expanding its open-source collaboration platform with Euro-Office, a new office suite positioned as part of the company’s European digital sovereignty strategy and offered alongside Collabora Online.
The addition gives organisations a choice between Euro-Office for Microsoft Office format compatibility and browser performance, and Collabora Online for tighter Nextcloud integration, support for Open Document Format (ODF), and privacy-focused collaboration.
Nextcloud describes itself as “a European open-source initiative with a joint governance model.” Users of Nextcloud AIO can switch between the two office suites directly through the web interface.
Euro-Office supports collaborative editing of documents, spreadsheets and presentations, while also enabling mobile editing on iOS and Android devices. The suite uses its own architecture, which Nextcloud says improves browser responsiveness and reduces server load.
The release also introduces Nextcloud Governance, targeting enterprises, government agencies and regulated industries. The new component includes Sensitivity Labels for classifying confidential information, Legal Hold capabilities to prevent file deletion during legal proceedings, and archiving and data lifecycle management tools for compliance requirements.
Nextcloud further expanded its AI Assistant with a Context Agent that connects information across files, emails, tasks, forms and project boards. The assistant now integrates with Unified Search, supports mobile devices and Kubernetes-based Context Chat deployments, and includes documentation designed to support compliance with the EU AI Act.
Additional updates include persistent Voice Rooms in Nextcloud Talk, new delegation capabilities in groupware applications, project management enhancements, developer ecosystem initiatives and broad maintenance, performance and security improvements.
