Linux Foundation Strengthens Cloud Leadership

The move aims to boost collaboration and growth across key open source projects including CNCF and OpenInfra, with a renewed focus on cloud native, AI, and edge computing.

In a move to strengthen its leadership in open source cloud and infrastructure technologies, the Linux Foundation has appointed Jonathan Bryce as Executive Director, Cloud & Infrastructure, and Chris Aniszczyk as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Cloud & Infrastructure. Both executives will oversee major open source initiatives, including the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), where Bryce will also take charge as Executive Director.

Jonathan Bryce, who continues to serve as Executive Director of the OpenInfra Foundation, brings extensive experience in building open source infrastructure communities. He will now be responsible for setting strategic direction across cloud native, AI, and infrastructure projects under the Linux Foundation. His goal is to foster sustainable growth and address emerging needs in areas such as generative AI, edge computing, and digital transformation.

Chris Aniszczyk, already an established leader within CNCF, will expand his role as CTO to support broader developer-facing efforts. His focus will be on scaling successful practices from CNCF to other Linux Foundation projects, including OpenInfra. Aniszczyk aims to strengthen developer engagement and promote innovation through open collaboration.

Linux Foundation Executive Director Jim Zemlin highlighted the complementary strengths of both leaders, stating that their combined experience will bring fresh energy and alignment across various open source projects critical to modern technology infrastructure.

As the new Executive Director of CNCF, Bryce will work with over 700 member organizations and more than 200 open source projects. He emphasized the potential for closer collaboration between CNCF and OpenInfra, two communities that are central to supporting AI, cloud native, and edge workloads.

“The Linux Foundation hosts some of the most important open source technologies globally. My focus is on ensuring the continued health, scale, and relevance of these projects,” said Bryce. Aniszczyk added that developers remain the foundation of open source innovation and that his efforts will aim to empower them across ecosystems. This leadership reshuffle underscores the Linux Foundation’s commitment to accelerating open source innovation in critical areas of cloud computing and infrastructure.
