Anaconda acquires Outerbounds to bring open-source Metaflow into a governed enterprise AI stack, addressing scalability, trust, and lifecycle gaps in AI-native development.

Anaconda has acquired Outerbounds, integrating the Metaflow framework to deliver a governed, end-to-end AI-native development platform spanning experimentation to production.

The move establishes a unified lifecycle platform enabling governed AI model deployment, production-grade agentic workflows, and secure, reproducible environments—positioning Anaconda as a full-stack enterprise AI provider.

At the core is Metaflow, an open-source framework originally developed at Netflix and licensed under Apache 2.0. Anaconda confirmed continued investment in its open-source development, reinforcing a pipeline where open-source experimentation integrates with enterprise-grade governance, trusted packages, and verified dependencies.

The acquisition addresses a growing enterprise challenge: fragmented AI tooling and increasing dependency complexity. With AI-generated code now accounting for 42 per cent of new code, producing 1.7 times more defects, and 80 per cent of AI-suggested dependencies carrying risks, the bottleneck has shifted from coding to managing systems, infrastructure, and reproducibility.

Outerbounds adds orchestration, experiment tracking, artifact management, and scalable compute across cloud and hybrid environments. Its technology is already used by organisations such as GE HealthCare, Warner Bros., and Realtor.com.

“For years, Anaconda has served as the trusted foundation for AI and data science within development, and this acquisition is the natural next chapter,” said David DeSanto, CEO, Anaconda. “The future belongs to AI-native development, where the AI model is the core of how applications are built, not something bolted on at the end.”

Ville Tuulos, co-founder and CEO, Outerbounds, added, “Together, we can give data scientists and AI engineers everything they need to move from secure environments to production-grade orchestration, and turn AI innovation into real, measurable outcomes.”
