Open Source Emerges As The Backbone Of Hybrid AI-Driven Digital Transformation As Red Hat Expands In The Philippines With GCash Driving Enterprise Adoption

Red Hat is scaling its open-source strategy in the Philippines, with GCash showcasing how hybrid cloud, AI, and standardised platforms are driving faster, secure fintech growth.

Red Hat is expanding its open-source push in the Philippines, positioning enterprise open source as the backbone of hybrid, AI-driven digital transformation. Its strategy spans hybrid cloud, artificial intelligence, automation, and virtualisation to accelerate enterprise modernisation.

Open source, once viewed as a low-cost alternative, is now a core enterprise model backed by vendors. “Who we are: we are an open source company, and it’s not just about developing software,” said Djang Granados, Country Manager, Red Hat Philippines, highlighting the company’s focus on enterprise-grade support, stability, and long-term reliability.

Red Hat’s platforms enable organisations to move workloads seamlessly across on-premises systems and multiple cloud environments, addressing flexibility and regulatory needs as most enterprises avoid fully cloud-only models.

GCash demonstrates this shift. The company began its open-source journey in 2018 to drive speed and cost efficiency, transitioning to a microservices architecture. “Back in 2018, our open source journey was very, very deliberate,” said Nico Alina, Head of Infrastructure Architecture and Enablement, GCash.

Rapid pandemic-driven growth led GCash to adopt a hybrid cloud model in 2022, combining cloud and local infrastructure. Standardising platforms across environments improved efficiency and reduced complexity while strengthening security and compliance. “A big thing for us is really standardizing our security and compliance, because trust and security is still our number one priority,” Alina said.

GCash is now integrating AI across systems, aiming to become an AI-native, hybrid multi-cloud organisation while advancing financial inclusion. “We really want to be AI-native… a big thing for us is really financial inclusion,” he added.

Red Hat aims to extend similar open-source-led transformation across enterprises and the public sector.
