Open Source Suzie Law Lets Lawyers Build Their Own Workflow-Driven AI Tools

Scissero has launched Suzie Law, an open-source legal AI foundation layer that enables lawyers to build, customise, and extend workflow-specific AI tools beyond traditional chat-based systems.

Scissero has launched “Suzie Law”, an open-source AI assistant designed to help lawyers with drafting, knowledge search, workflow-specific legal tooling, and extensible AI development.

Unlike conventional legal AI platforms, Suzie Law is intentionally designed to be cloned, modified, and adapted by the legal community, positioning the project as an open-source foundation layer for legal AI systems.

“Suzie Law is intended to be cloned, modified, and adapted by the legal community,” said Mathias Strasser, CEO of Scissero.

The launch comes shortly after Will Chen introduced another open-source legal AI platform called Mike, signalling growing momentum in open-source legal AI infrastructure.

Suzie Law was developed through collaboration between Team Suzie and Scissero. Team Suzie contributed the reusable agent loop, chat shell, document tooling, persona system, knowledge-base runtime, and UI primitives, while Scissero provided legal expertise and workflow-specific domain knowledge.

Strasser said the platform was created around the idea that lawyers themselves should be able to build and customise AI systems tailored to their own workflows.

“Baseline legal AI should be free. Clients and legal teams should have access to a capable starting point comparable with what is available in the market,” he said.

The company plans to monetise advanced proprietary layers above the open-source foundation, including document drafting and markups, data extraction, and obligations management.

Strasser added: “By open-sourcing the base layer, we’re not giving away the real source of value – the value comes from what gets built on top of it.”
