Strive has pledged institutional support for Bitcoin open-source development by funding Brink, saying long-term Bitcoin adoption depends on sustaining Bitcoin Core developers and critical open-source infrastructure.
Strive has launched its Bitcoin Stewardship Commitment, calling on institutions that benefit from Bitcoin to help preserve and strengthen the network. As its first initiative, the company will support Bitcoin open-source development through Brink, an independent nonprofit that funds contributors to Bitcoin Core and other critical Bitcoin infrastructure.
Brink identifies, develops and supports contributors based solely on the quality of their work, reinforcing Bitcoin’s merit-based open-source development model. Strive said the initiative builds on its support for the Bitcoin Policy Institute, reflecting its view that both sound public policy and independent open-source development are essential to Bitcoin’s long-term success.
The company described funding Bitcoin Core developers as prudent long-term stewardship rather than philanthropy as institutional Bitcoin adoption accelerates. It noted that Bitcoin Core is the leading open-source implementation of Bitcoin full-node software, enabling individuals and institutions to independently verify and enforce Bitcoin’s consensus rules while helping attract and retain top engineering talent.

Mike Schmidt, Executive Director of Brink, said Strive’s support will help fund engineering talent maintaining Bitcoin software worldwide while expanding Brink’s fellowship programme for new contributors.
Strive said it will evaluate additional initiatives supporting Bitcoin development, education, research and public policy. Brink, founded in 2020, is funded entirely through donations.
