The Agentic AI Foundation has added 57 organisations, including Alibaba, Visa, and Wells Fargo, as enterprises back open standards to reduce vendor lock-in in agentic AI.

The Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) has added 57 organisations, taking its membership to 247 as enterprises increasingly back open-source infrastructure and standards for interoperable AI agents. The new members span financial services, telecommunications, and academia, with Alibaba Group, Visa, and Wells Fargo & Company joining as Gold-tier members after contributing $200,000 each.

Stewarded by the Linux Foundation (LF), AAIF aims to establish open standards that allow AI agents to work across tools, platforms, systems, and industries. Its growing membership signals enterprise interest in shared infrastructure rather than proprietary agent stacks.

AAIF’s open ecosystem includes the Model Context Protocol (MCP), originally introduced by Anthropic, which provides a standard way for AI applications to connect with external tools, systems, and data sources. OpenAI is among its supporters. The foundation also oversees AGENTS.md, originally contributed by OpenAI, which provides instructions and context for coding agents, and Goose, an open modular AI agent framework introduced by Block for building local agentic workflows.

Enterprises can join through Gold, Silver, and Associate tiers, although membership is not required to contribute to AAIF’s open-source projects. The foundation states that anyone can contribute without seeking permission.

Launched in December 2025, AAIF is positioning open standards and open-source projects as shared infrastructure for agentic AI, potentially reducing vendor lock-in while allowing competing organisations to shape the same technology stack.
