On 3 August 2026, Genspark (Mainfunc) launched GenOffice, an open-source, AI-native desktop office suite under the Apache 2.0 Licence ([github.com/genspark-ai/genoffice](https://github.com/genspark-ai/genoffice)). Built as an Alpha (v0.4.110) in just 7 days by a single engineer for roughly US$10,000 in LLM token API costs, it embeds artificial intelligence directly into document states rather than using sidebar chatbots.
GenOffice provides native, layout-accurate compatibility for Microsoft Office formats (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx, .pdf). Its Docs editor features full word processing and block-granular AI rewriting, whilst Sheets combines standard calculations and pivot tables with AI agents that build financial models directly inside cells. Slides auto-generates pitch decks from text prompts, and PDF offers integrated viewing, editing, annotations, and inline AI querying.
Under the hood, GenOffice packages five sub-apps within a tabbed Electron shell. Its Docs Engine uses a byte-preserving round-trip design that re-splices only modified OOXML fragments to prevent layout corruption. Sheets leverages the Univer core alongside a Rust sidecar (calamine/IronCalc), Slides employs a custom parser with HarfBuzz text shaping, and PDF runs on pdf.js and pdf-lib.
All standard offline editing functions are completely free and ad-free. Server-side AI actions, such as deep research, data analysis, and deck generation, consume Genspark account credits without requiring local API keys.
