IBM Consulting has joined the GSMA Open Gateway initiative to accelerate enterprise adoption of Camara’s open-source network APIs and help move them into production deployments.
IBM Consulting has joined the GSMA Open Gateway initiative, strengthening the commercial ecosystem supporting Camara, a Linux Foundation open-source project that defines, develops and tests network APIs.
Camara works with the GSMA Operator Platform Group to align API requirements and publish API definitions and APIs. Its API definitions and reference implementations are free to use, with working code and developer-friendly documentation supporting interoperability.
Launched in 2023, GSMA Open Gateway provides developers and cloud providers with consistent, interoperable and federated access to mobile operator network capabilities through common APIs. More than 300 mobile networks, representing over 80% of the world’s mobile connections, participate in the initiative.
IBM Consulting’s role is intended to help enterprises move from network-API discovery and use-case definition through solution architecture, systems integration and managed services. The GSMA says this could bridge the gap between open API availability and production-ready deployment at scale.
The initiative’s channel partner programme has more than 70 businesses, including Alibaba Cloud, Meta, Microsoft and Oracle. Camara APIs expose capabilities including identity, location, risk and network performance, with applications across 4G and 5G services.

Henry Calvert, Head of Networks, GSMA, said IBM could help move network APIs “from compelling propositions to practical, scalable solutions that form part of mainstream enterprise infrastructure.”
The development strengthens the path from open-source network API standards to enterprise and public-sector deployment.
