3mdeb has launched Dasharo v0.9.0, delivering the first open-source coreboot and openSIL firmware for a modern AMD Ryzen desktop motherboard.
On 31 July, 2026, open source firmware consulting firm 3mdeb released Dasharo v0.9.0 for the MSI PRO B850-P WIFI motherboard on 30 July 2026. Dasharo v0.9.0 represents the first open-source firmware release for a modern AMD Ryzen consumer desktop platform, built on coreboot and AMD openSIL for AMD Phoenix (Zen 4) processors.
3mdeb’s firmware includes a UEFI-compatible boot interface supporting configurable boot options, standard boot order, and UEFI Secure Boot. Tested operating systems for the release include Ubuntu 26.04 LTS and Windows 11 (25H2). Security features include AMD fTPM with TPM Measured Boot (TPM 2.0 via the AMD Platform Security Processor), SMM BIOS write protection using AMD ROM Armor 3, and password configuration for setup menus.
The release provides firmware-level controls to disable the USB and network stacks, alongside support for TCG OPAL and SATA disk passwords. System updates are supported via UEFI Capsule Update v1 with Capsule-on-Disk, and boot initialization progress is indicated using the motherboard’s EZ Debug LEDs. Fast boot capabilities are enabled via AMD memory context save and restore functions across reboots.
Staged UEFI Capsule Updates do not survive system resets, meaning updates must execute immediately without a warm reset. Automatic restoration of the previous ATX power state following an AC power loss is not functional, leaving only “always on” or “always off” states working reliably. Enabling serial console redirection causes intermittent boot hangs under Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. The onboard Wi-Fi adapter may occasionally fail to appear on the PCI device list during boot, requiring a CMOS reset to restore function.
