OpenZFS 2.4.4 brings Linux 7.2 compatibility to the open-source storage stack, while retaining support for older Linux and FreeBSD versions and back-porting fixes across stable branches.
OpenZFS 2.4.4, the latest stable point release of the open-source ZFS file-system implementation for Linux and FreeBSD, adds compatibility with the recently released Linux 7.2 stable kernel. The update brings the out-of-tree OpenZFS file-system in line with the upstream Linux 7.2 kernel state, keeping the open-source storage stack aligned with the latest Linux release.
The release retains Linux support back to version 4.18 and FreeBSD support from version 13.3 onwards, maintaining compatibility across a broad range of platforms.
OpenZFS 2.4.4 also includes dozens of fixes, covering updated test cases, security policy improvements, additional Linux kernel compatibility fixes, and other changes across the codebase. It also makes systemd-udev-settle optional for import units.
OpenZFS has simultaneously released version 2.3.9 and 2.2.11, with bug fixes back-ported to their respective stable branches. The parallel maintenance of multiple branches highlights the project’s continued focus on long-term stability alongside newer kernel compatibility.
