BrainChip’s open source bundle integrates its Akida neuromorphic AI chips with IBM Spectrum Symphony to offload lightweight tasks from GPUs in enterprise data centres.
On 20 August 2026, BrainChip Holdings Ltd released the Symphony Community Akida Bundle, a free, open-source software integration package hosted directly on GitHub and BrainChip’s developer portal. The bundle links BrainChip’s Akida neuromorphic AI processors directly with IBM Spectrum Symphony Community Edition, an enterprise workload management and orchestration tool widely used in production environments.
The integration unifies CPUs, GPUs, and neuromorphic compute into a single managed scheduling pool. It automatically directs smaller, lightweight, event-driven inference tasks to Akida processors instead of defaulting to energy-intensive GPU cycles.
The bundle includes multi-chip scaling features (e.g. image sharding inference) that can automatically split large inputs, process them in parallel across multiple Akida chips, and stitch the outputs together. The software features an automated single-script installer that detects connected Akida cards, checks operational health, assigns each card a container, and integrates them into IBM Symphony with no manual configuration needed.
It requires an x86 host system, a container runtime, and IBM Spectrum Symphony Community Edition. The bundle includes pre-built setup scripts, container environments, README documentation, and a starter suite of benchmark demos.
Original integration work between Akida and Symphony was performed by IBM Field CTO Kevin D. Johnson. This initiative marks BrainChip’s commercial expansion beyond edge and IoT hardware into on-premises enterprise data centre servers.
