GigaDevice has joined the open-source Zephyr Project as a Silver Member and is contributing GD32 MCU support, code and development resources to broaden embedded software options for developers.

GigaDevice has joined the Zephyr Project as a Silver Member, bringing its GD32 microcontroller portfolio deeper into the open-source RTOS ecosystem and contributing MCU support to the project.

Hosted by the Linux Foundation, Zephyr is an open-source real-time operating system for embedded devices. GigaDevice is now a dual Silver Member of the Zephyr Project and the Linux Foundation, and plans to strengthen integration between GD32 MCUs and Zephyr.

GigaDevice says its engineering team has already adapted multiple GD32 MCU series for Zephyr, completing SoC, board support package (BSP) driver and board-level support. Relevant development code is available through the company’s GD32 GitHub repositories, while the engineering team continues to contribute code and provide technical support to the Zephyr community.

The integration is expected to give developers in industrial control, IoT, consumer electronics, smart-home and wearable applications more software options and development resources. Greater access to code and community support could also improve development efficiency, accelerate product roll-outs and make GD32 development resources easier to access and use.

GigaDevice has previously focused on integrating its GD32 MCUs with mainstream open software ecosystems. Its Zephyr participation comes as embedded applications increasingly demand greater software openness, portability and development efficiency.

Zephyr brings chip vendors, software vendors, device manufacturers and developers together around an open and flexible foundation for embedded development. By contributing GD32 support, GigaDevice is extending its hardware presence into this open-source ecosystem while giving developers an alternative to more vendor-specific software stacks.
