Red Hat and NVIDIA have joined forces to bring open source flexibility to hardware acceleration, enabling faster, more secure, and scalable AI datacentres through Red Hat OpenShift on NVIDIA BlueField DPUs.

Red Hat has announced support for Red Hat OpenShift on NVIDIA BlueField Data Processing Units (DPUs), extending open source innovation into the hardware acceleration layer. This integration delivers a secure, high-performance platform for AI factories and next-generation datacentre deployments, simplifying the deployment of demanding AI workloads with optimised security, networking, and storage capabilities.

AI applications often compete with infrastructure services for resources, creating performance bottlenecks and security risks. Red Hat OpenShift on BlueField tackles this by offering a cloud-native platform that separates AI and infrastructure workloads, resulting in enhanced networking, streamlined provisioning, and efficient lifecycle management.

The collaboration introduces multiple technical advantages:

  • Optimised resource utilisation through offloading of networking services from CPUs to DPUs, freeing up processing power for AI workloads.
  • Accelerated data plane and storage traffic with support for NVMe over Fabrics (NVMe-oF) and an accelerated OVS data path.
  • Advanced cloud networking and improved multi-tenancy, with BlueField-powered distributed routing.
  • Enhanced security posture through reduced attack surfaces and layered protection.

Support for NVIDIA BlueField on Red Hat OpenShift will be available as a technical preview in the coming weeks. The two companies are also working to integrate NVIDIA DOCA, support BlueField-4, and enable Spectrum-X Ethernet networking for distributed AI cloud environments.

Ryan King, Vice President, AI and Infrastructure, Partner Ecosystem Success, Red Hat, said, “Our collaboration with NVIDIA provides customers with a more reliable, secure and high-performance platform to address this challenge and maximise their hardware investment.”

Justin Boitano, Vice President, Enterprise Products, NVIDIA, added, “The Red Hat OpenShift integration of NVIDIA BlueField builds on our longstanding work to empower organisations to achieve unprecedented scale and performance.”
