APAC Enterprises Get Open Source Route To Cloud Sovereignty With SUSE Self Assessment

SUSE introduces a web-based self-assessment platform that helps APAC enterprises benchmark AI infrastructure readiness for sovereign AI, positioning enterprise open source as the safest path to regulatory compliance and cloud autonomy.

SUSE has launched the Cloud Sovereignty Framework Self Assessment, a web-based, self-service tool designed to help APAC enterprises evaluate AI infrastructure readiness for Sovereign AI, benchmarking against the 2025 EU Cloud Sovereignty Framework.

Positioned as part of SUSE’s enterprise open source software strategy, the platform promotes sovereign, vendor-independent and locally controlled cloud and AI stacks, helping organisations avoid external jurisdictions, single-vendor lock-in and supply chain vulnerabilities while meeting tightening regulatory requirements.

The timing reflects growing demand for digital autonomy. Digital and AI sovereignty are fuelling a cloud renaissance, with Forrester predicting a doubling of year-on-year cloud growth in 2026. Enterprises without demonstrable localised control of AI infrastructure risk losing operating eligibility.

The assessment condenses what was previously a complex, manual process into an automated 20-minute evaluation. It generates a Sovereignty Effective Assurance Level (SEAL) score and measures readiness across eight sovereignty objectives.

Key capabilities include a five-tier SEAL benchmark (0–4), targeted risk analysis weighted toward supply chain security (20%) and operational autonomy (15%), a privacy-first design with results stored only in the user’s browser, and a downloadable PDF roadmap for improvement.

“Organisations globally are facing a ‘black box’ problem when it comes to digital sovereignty, creating significant hidden risks,” said Andreas Prins, head of Global Sovereign Solutions at SUSE. “Cloud Sovereignty is the essential foundation for Sovereign AI, as an AI model can only be truly autonomous if the underlying cloud infrastructure provides localised data residency and operational control.

Without a sovereign cloud stack, organisations risk a ‘black box’ problem where their AI models and data remain subject to external jurisdictions, single vendors, and supply chain vulnerabilities. As governments and stakeholders reviewing Digital Sovereignty and Sovereign AI in APAC today, getting the right foundation now will empower enterprises to optimise their technology roadmaps to continue competing globally.”
