GitHub and Major League Hacking (MHL) have set up the MHL Fellowship. It is a remote internship program that will support the next generation of developers with open source projects. Facebook, Royal Bank of Canada, and DEV have already signed on as supporters and sponsors.

Mike Swift, CEO of MLH said, “Enabling students to spend their summer contributing to the software that runs the world is a unique opportunity for them. They’ll work on meaningful projects with their peers under the guidance of some of the world’s most talented engineers. The remote nature of this program will democratize access to internships for countless students worldwide.”

Receive a stipend

The program will be a 12-week one and it will run over the summer. It will fund up to 1,000 students full time on major open source projects under the mentorship of experienced engineers. The students will work in “pods” of 8-10 students with open source projects and mentors. Students receive a stipend for the program through GitHub Sponsors.
