The Document Foundation has released LibreOffice 26.8 with no generative AI, remote document processing, or network dependency, while adding major productivity and compatibility improvements.
The Document Foundation has released LibreOffice 26.8, a major update to its free and open-source office suite for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows. The release takes a deliberate local-first approach: it contains no generative AI features, does not transmit documents to remote services for processing, and requires no network access for any component to function.

LibreOffice 26.8 also brings substantial improvements across its applications. Writer gains a Paragraph Composer for balancing word spacing, OpenType font variation support, automatic paragraph-direction detection, improved accessibility through ARIA table indexing, and faster opening of large image-heavy documents.
Calc adds Calculated Fields for pivot tables, a Shuffle command, editable table styles, improved XLSX handling, and automatic direction settings for right-to-left text. Impress and Draw gain multiple page sizes within documents, presentation sections, custom slide names, and improved template handling.
LibreOffice Chart adds basic round-trip support for newer Microsoft Office OOXML chart types, including funnel, Pareto, sunburst, treemap, and waterfall charts. Math and Base receive improvements for multilingual formulas, fonts, SQL comments, and database filtering.
The release also adds Python scripting through the Macro Manager without requiring an extension, along with further ScriptForge improvements.
LibreOffice 26.8 is available now, with seven maintenance updates planned through June 13, 2027. Version 26.8.1 is expected in mid-September.
