Helical Insight has made its enterprise-grade BI capabilities available in its free open-source Community Edition, shifting its business model from feature gating to paid support and services to drive wider adoption.
Helical Insight has released a major update to its free and open-source Community Edition, making enterprise-grade Business Intelligence (BI) capabilities available without the feature restrictions commonly found in open-core software.
The company has shifted away from the traditional Community versus Enterprise licensing model. Instead of reserving advanced capabilities for paying customers, it will now monetise through enterprise support and professional services, while both editions share the same core analytical features.
The Community Edition now includes AI-powered conversational analytics using a Bring Your Own LLM (BYO LLM) approach, interactive dashboards, pixel-perfect (paginated) reporting, embedded analytics, Single Sign-On (SSO), row-level security, multi-tenancy, white labelling, report scheduling and report bursting.
According to Helical Insight, the Enterprise Edition differs only by offering SLA-backed technical support, professional implementation and consulting services, and the removal of Helical Insight branding from charts and exported reports.
The company said this approach allows organisations to evaluate, deploy and scale using the same platform in production without encountering feature limitations between editions.
Designed for modern analytics workloads, the platform supports deployment across on-premises infrastructure, private and public cloud environments, Docker and Kubernetes. It also integrates with relational databases, cloud data warehouses and modern query engines.
The feature-complete Community Edition is available immediately, with the source code published on GitHub, reinforcing Helical Insight’s move towards an open-source-first commercial model that competes on services rather than restricting software capabilities.
