Red Hat OpenShift has secured its third straight Gartner Leader ranking, reinforcing the growing enterprise preference for open-source Kubernetes platforms to run AI, containers and virtual machines across hybrid cloud environments.
Red Hat has been named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cloud-Native Application Platforms, marking the third consecutive year that its Kubernetes-powered Red Hat OpenShift platform has been positioned in the Leaders quadrant.
The recognition highlights OpenShift, Red Hat’s enterprise hybrid application platform built on open-source Kubernetes technologies. Gartner evaluated 12 cloud-native application platform vendors based on their Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute.
According to Red Hat, OpenShift provides a unified platform for managing containers, virtual machines (VMs) and AI workloads across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. The platform is available as managed services on AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud and IBM Cloud, while also supporting self-managed on-premises deployments.
Red Hat has also expanded OpenShift with capabilities focused on compute cost optimisation, resource scheduling and production-ready AI application development. Its OpenShift Virtualization feature further enables enterprises to migrate traditional virtual machines onto a unified Kubernetes platform, simplifying operations across legacy and cloud-native infrastructure.
The recognition comes as organisations increasingly seek cloud-native platforms that can modernise legacy environments while supporting AI deployments through a consistent operational framework.
