The World Internet Conference (WIC) Wuzhen Summit 2026 kicked off on November 3 in Wuzhen, Zhejiang province of China. The annual event will be conducted under the theme of openness, collaboration and benefits sharing towards a connected digital future. The summit provides a platform for government officials, international organisations, tech companies and researchers to exchange views on the rising role of artificial intelligence.

One of the key events taking place at the WIC summit is AI Wuzhen Dialogue, which gathers technology executives, open-source AI companies and researchers who will discuss how to foster the development of an open-source AI ecosystem globally. At the same time, the WIC Wuzhen Summit will host 27 sub-fora on a variety of issues including artificial intelligence security, digital governance, international cooperation, robotics, and embodied intelligence.

At the same time, the international community showed high interest in the awards and project submission programme held at the summit. Thus, there were 360 entries submitted from 80 countries and regions to the call for outstanding cases on cyberspace cooperation, and 11 cases made it to the shortlist. Moreover, there were more than 430 applications for the World Internet Conference Awards for Pioneering Science and Technology coming from 43 countries and regions. As many as 20 projects have been awarded, and the number of international submissions grew by 21% compared to the previous year.

According to Wang Jian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the summit may become a good venue for China to contribute to global AI development through cooperation. John Hoffman, CEO of GSMA, also stressed the importance of the summit as a platform for exchanging ideas and creating an open internet for everybody.
