MNT Research has introduced the MNT Station, a fanless modular computer built around an open-hardware architecture. Instead of using a fixed processor and a closed system design, the platform allows users to select from different computing modules and adapt the system to their requirements. The core of the MNT Station’s modular approach is its 200-pin processor module connector. The platform supports a range of Arm processor and FPGA modules, giving users the option to select different computing architectures without replacing the complete computer. Supported modules include platforms based on processors such as the Rockchip RK3588, NXP Layerscape LS1028A and Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4. This modular design also provides a path for using newer computing modules as they become available.
The MNT Reform Mainboard 3.0 forms another important part of the open-hardware ecosystem. The mainboard can be used to build a modular computer around a selected processor or FPGA module, while existing MNT Reform mainboards can also be reused inside the MNT Station. This approach allows hardware to be repurposed instead of requiring users to replace an entire system when their computing requirements change.
