W4 Games secured US$18 million in Series B funding to accelerate enterprise tools and expand the Godot Engine ecosystem across Asia.
W4 Games has raised US$18 million in Series B funding led by Chinese tech conglomerate Tencent, with participation from OSS Capital, LUX Capital, Naval Ravikant, and Tobias Lütke’s family office. This brings its total capital raised to US$33 million. Alongside the investment, W4 signed a multi-year strategic agreement with Tencent to expand, scale, and bolster the open-source Godot Engine ecosystem across Asia through go-to-market initiatives, localisations, and regional developer support.
Founded in 2021 by Godot Engine creator Juan Linietsky and core maintainers (including Fabio Alessandrelli and Rémi Verschelde) alongside Co-CEO Nicola Farronato, W4 Games operates on a commercial open-source model similar to Red Hat. Whilst the MIT-licensed engine is stewarded independently by the non-profit Godot Foundation, W4 provides enterprise services, platform porting, and developer tools.
SteamDB data cited by W4 shows Steam titles built with Godot grew over 50% year-on-year in 2024 and 2025, with 1,262 Godot games released in 2026 alone. Gamalytic analysis highlights that Godot titles earning over US$1 million annually grew from two to over 50 in three years. Additionally, Godot’s market share in major game jams like GMTK surged from 10% to 50% since 2022.
W4 Games plans to expand its 30-person team by 50%, adding 10 to 15 full-time staff in Asia over the next 12 months. The funding will scale infrastructure for enterprise demand across gaming, XR, and multiplayer verticals. Asia (notably China and Japan) represents Godot’s second-largest market after the US, positioning W4 to capitalise on Unity’s scaled-back presence in China.
