Two reference hardware platforms are being developed to support electronics design, prototyping, and product development.
Science of Cambridge, a UK-based electronic design company, is developing two hardware platforms intended as open-source reference designs for engineers, researchers and educational institutions. The platforms under development include the MK42 Industrial controller and a transparent phone, both intended to serve as reference hardware.
The company states that these two products will be developed as open-source hardware platforms and not as closed commercial devices. Both their hardware and the relevant design documents will enable users to develop customised solutions and build upon the reference platforms for their projects and applications.
The platforms showcase the company’s expertise in electronic circuit and PCB design, embedded hardware, RF systems, power supply design, mechanical engineering, firmware and embedded software.
Science of Cambridge also offers support for prototype development and small batch manufacturing using Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and through-hole manufacturing and assembly. This will allow hardware designs to move from prototype to small-batch production and help in design verification and improvement.
The company expects the first platform to launch within the coming months, with further technical updates to follow. The availability of these platforms will offer reusable hardware reference designs to engineers, universities, and technology developers.
